About the role

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) is seeking candidates for its newly created and unique position of national policy research adviser. The successful candidate will develop and lead a coherent and coordinated policy research program that supports the ANMF achieve its key objectives and plans and will ensure that the ANMF is proactive in its approach to analysing the impact of key national health and funding policies and policy changes.

About the organisation

Established in 1924, the ANMF is the national union for nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing/personal care workers, with branches in each state and territory of Australia. The ANMF’s core business is the industrial, professional and political representation of over 259,000 members nationally.

Our members are employed in a wide range of enterprises in urban, rural and remote locations, in the public, private and aged care sectors including nursing homes, hospitals, health services, schools, universities, the armed forces, statutory authorities, local governments, and off-shore territories and industries.

The ANMF is seeking to extend its research capacity and policy influence through a coordinated and strategic approach, in consultation and collaboration with all state and territory branches, and key external stakeholders.

About you

If you are an experienced researcher or analyst with a background in health, public policy/financing, or economics/health economics, who is looking for a challenging and stimulating opportunity to develop a new and strategic approach to research and evidence to underpin the activities of the country’s largest union, and assess and influence policy, please consider this position.

Conditions of employment

This is a permanent position which will be offered part-time, 0.5 FTE, but with some flexibility in hours, particularly in the initial phase.

The ANMF offers generous conditions of employment, with hours and salary to be negotiated with the successful applicant depending on qualifications and experience and in accordance with the ANMF Appointed Staff Enterprise Agreement.

The role is based in Melbourne but may involve some occasional interstate travel.
