The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) is recruiting for a Research Ethics Administrator to play a key role in the provision of a wide range of research ethics administration support and office wide administrative duties. 

You will provide support to the Research Ethics Officer, Research Ethics Manager, Chairpersons and members of the University's ethics and biosafety committees, as well as other staff and students. In this role, you will ensure the timely administration of complex applications and approvals throughout their lifecycle, and help coordinate the University's ethics and biosafety committees to ensure they operate effectively and efficiently.

The Research and Information Office is responsible for university contract and collaborative research, and for research commercialisation. RIO has four functional areas; Research Operations and Management, Research Engagement, and Research Intelligence and Quality.

The main duties/responsibilities:

  • Respond to enquiries and information requests from the UTS research community at reception, in person, on the telephone or via email.
  • Facilitate communication with researchers regarding the requirements for, and outcomes of their applications.
  • Work directly with staff and students to provide advice on applications prior to submission (advice ranging from simple administrative to legislative and ethical considerations) and seek advice from the REO or REM in relation to more complex and sensitive matters.
  • Provide high quality administrative support to the UTS Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), Expedited Review Committee (ERC), Clinical trials Sub-Committee (CTSC), Animal Care and Ethics Committee (ACEC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
  • Assist with the development of standard office processes and procedures in relation to research ethics and biosafety.
  • Contribute to office-wide projects, such as continuous improvement, by raising ideas and in some cases documenting / designing / revising processes relevant to the role.

To be successful in securing the role you will have:

  • a certificate or Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent administrative experience.
  • a strong customer service attitude.
  • a high level of accuracy, literacy, numeracy and attention to detail.
  • the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • good problem solving skills.


Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $66,945 to $76,585 pa (HEW 5)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
