The Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACPD) helps protect Australia’s multi-billion dollar livestock and aquaculture industries, and the general public, from emerging infectious disease threats. It is a high-containment facility designed to allow scientific research into the most dangerous infectious agents in the world.

As the Research Projects Officer- Insectary with the ACDP, you will work in a microbiologically secure laboratory (PC2 & 3) as part of a multi-disciplinary research team with responsibilities and outputs supporting and delivering quality assured research of mosquitos and other arthropod colonies In addition to laboratory-based work, you will also be involved in field work that support the delivery of ACDP’s research objectives.

Your duties will include:

  • Maintain mosquito and other arthropod colonies, as required, and support research projects in the insectary.
  • Assist in maintaining various regulatory compliance of the laboratory area.
  • Maintain required paperwork for traceability and records for research purpose.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary, often regionally dispersed research team, to carry out tasks in support of CSIRO scientific objectives.

Salary: AU$ $49k - AU$63k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Knowledge, education or work experience in science related fields such as biological science, biotechnology or related disciplines and/or demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated record of technical competence in laboratory assays and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and co-operatively as a member of a larger project team, and to form and maintain effective and respectful relationships with a range of colleagues and collaborators.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and schedule laboratory workflow in a timely and technically sound manner.
