About the opportunity
The Prevention Research Collaboration (PRC) is a research group within the Sydney School of Public Health, that focuses on specialised expertise in population-wide prevention and policy-relevant research and translational research.
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Fellow (Policy & Practice) in part time capacity (0.6FTE – 0.8FTE which equates to 22.5 – 30hrs per week) who will contribute to the conduct of a multi-year research engagement with the NSW Research Program for Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity Prevention (RPANOP) within the Prevention Research Collaboration. Working closely with the RPANOP Directors, the successful incumbent will manage the delivery of PANOP research, evaluation and other relevant initiatives, including contributing to system capacity and workforce development across the NSW preventive health systems.
The Senior Research Fellow, with the Directors, will lead the development of RPANOP workplans and annual reporting, and maintain liaison function and communication with the Ministry of Health.

- PhD in public health or a relevant area
- multidisciplinary practice and policy relevant research skills in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, obesity etc
- understanding of current and emerging national and state health systems and relevant policy issues and developments
- extensive experience with and understanding of Australian health service systems and policy environment
- experience in critical appraisal of evidence and systematic reviews, synthesis and reporting
- experience with developing research design for program evaluations and in research and evaluation management
- experience in capacity building of policy and practitioners in research and evaluation

The Sydney School of Public Health is an academic School of the Faculty of Medicine and Health and comprises a multi-disciplinary network of academics and research groups engaging in a range of educational and public health-research activities. The Sydney School of Public Health trains local and international students and is renowned for its excellence in teaching in epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, health economics, health advocacy and evidence-based healthcare. Its postgraduate programs include coursework masters degrees, research degrees, and graduate diplomas.
The successful incumbent will be based at the Prevention Research Collaboration (PRC), a research group within the Sydney School of Public Health, with specialised expertise in population-wide prevention and policy-relevant research and translational research. The PRC research portfolio includes public health priority topics, with major emphases on chronic disease prevention, especially public health nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention. The PRC also carries out work in other areas of prevention, including tobacco control, social marketing and mass media campaign evaluation, health promotion research, and the methods for research translation and scale-up in public health program evaluation.
