About the opportunity 

The Sydney Institute of Community Language Education is an exciting and innovative joint venture between the University of Sydney and the NSW Department of Education.

The Institute’s goal is to be recognised in the community schools sector as the State’s leading hub for research, education and community capacity building to improve languages education in NSW.

The Assistant Director will assist the Director in fulfilling the mission and strategic objectives of the Institute through the provision of academic and program expertise, in the key areas of accountability and in planning for longer term sustainability of SICLE.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual who has experience and knowledge of working with community groups in culturally diverse contexts especially relating to education.

About you

  • a completed PhD or enrolment in a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., languages education, cultural diversity)
  • a teaching qualification in Languages or EALD education
  • a track record in successful teaching at tertiary and/or school level
  • experience and knowledge of working with community groups in culturally diverse contexts especially relating to education
  • research skills such as design and data gathering and qualitative and/or quantitative analysis
  • experience in managing staff and strategic and project planning
  • experience in, or the ability to, supervise research students
  • excellent communication skills in English and another language
  • skills and experience in the use of IT and multi-modal approaches to languages education
  • highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills.
