The Role

Our Port Melbourne site is not only the home of Vegemite it is also the home of other Australian iconic products, such as Bega Peanut Butter, Bega Simply Nuts, Zoosh and Cream Cheese. VEGEMITE has been proudly made in Port Melbourne, Australia since 1923. VEGEMITE is celebrating its MITEY 100th birthday in 2023 and we are going to party hard with the MITEY-EST of ideas!  Can you believe it has been 100 years since VEGEMITE graced the shelves of Australian grocers?

We are a tight knit team at Port Melbourne, dedicated to providing Aussies and the world a top-quality product, ensuring safety is a priority and always looking at new ways to up the ante!

Reporting to the Microbiology Section manager, this critical role is responsible for providing service and technical support in all product and material analysis areas, including analyses of finished goods, raw materials, environmental surveys, and equipment calibration. This is an excellent opportunity to get experience across all those areas.

This role is a Permanent Part-Time position, the working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday (30.4 hpw).

Responsibilities

  • Performing general microbiological testing using techniques such as Petri-film, spread plate, pour plate, spore testing, MPNs, and membrane filtration
  • Specialised microbiological tests as well as performing pathogen analyses
  • Ensuring the timely online data entry for all sampling and testing results into LIMS
  • Perform, report, and follow up on lab equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Reading, confirmation, and reporting on analyses completed

About you

  • Experience working as a technician in a microbiology laboratory
  • Strong attention to detail and great problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience reading results after testing, signatory experience would be beneficial
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business
