The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is Australia’s premiere tropical aquatic research group and is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University (JCU). The Centre comprises of over 150 staff and 100 post-graduate students and performs research in fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water ecosystems.

TropWATER has an exciting new opportunity for a Research Communications Manager to join the team on a full-time; fixed term basis until 31 December 2024. Remuneration at HEWL 8 $95,214 - $109,337 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation contributions. The position is located at the JCU Townsville Bebegu Yumba Campus, Douglas in the new spacious and modern Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct (ATSIP).

About the role
The Research Communications Manager, TropWATER will lead, develop and implement a consistent and professional strategic communications approach to promote the profile of TropWATER nationally and internationally. The incumbent will be the key contact for internal and external stakeholders on all communication activities within TropWATER.

What you will bring to the role
With a degree in either Science, Communications or Media and extensive relevant experience, or a combination of relevant experience, education or training, you will have well-developed computer skills and be confident in website and social media content creation. Your high-level communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with scientists and researchers will assist you in effectively communicating their research activities to different audiences. You will also have excellent organisational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to organise presentation events including workshops and conferences.
