About the opportunity
The School of Electrical and Information Engineering delivers world leading research-led undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching programs, as well as an internationally respected research program across a wide range of engineering and information technology sub-disciplines. Coursework teaching majors included Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer and Software Engineering, and Internets of Things.
The Technical Assistant works closely with the School’s Professional Officers to provide essential technical professional support to staff and students using the School of Electrical and Information Engineering Teaching (EIE) laboratories, undertake routine analysis in accordance with established procedures/standards, prepare the laboratory for student practicals, prepare and carry out experiments related to the research work being undertaken by the School.
In this position, you will:
- provide laboratory research support and assistance to academic staff, students and other technical staff in the laboratory
- maintain the laboratory workplace ensuring that the research, learning and teaching requirements of the work area are suitably met
- ensures laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements
- prepare reporting and documentation, including ethics reporting.

- Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and relevant work experience
- demonstrated knowledge in embedded computing, MIMO system, software development in Matlab and C++, FPGA
- demonstrated experience with PCB design and mechanical workshop skills
- sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment.
