Senior Zoologist - Subterranean Fauna

The Team

Biologic is based East Perth and has one of the largest teams specialising in Subterranean Fauna in WA. The team consists of a mix of highly experienced zoologists, as well as hardworking developing zoologists. We pride ourselves on innovation and collaboration, employing the latest science to investigate unique and complex problems. Specimen identifications are conducted by our experienced taxonomists and molecular analysis is conducted by our in-house Molecular Team. 

We conduct a wide range of surveys, from large multi team baselines to smaller targeted surveys and conservation significant species monitoring surveys using eDNA. We have a comprehensive pipeline of exciting current and upcoming projects with a variety of clients. We have several ongoing research projects, collaborating with experts and universities. 

What you’ll do

We’re looking for a permanent (full or part time) Senior Zoologist (Subterranean Fauna) with specific subterranean fauna experience (consulting experience is desirable). This position is fully flexible with the ability to work from home, remotely or from the office, with field work incorporated. Biologic also provides the opportunity to work across other ecological disciplines, including but not limited to terrestrial invertebrates (including SRE) and aquatic ecology. The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading subterranean fauna field surveys, in accordance with client specific HSE requirements and current EPA guidelines in a range of remote environments across WA 
  • Data analysis and interpretation to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
  • Plan surveys, prepare proposals, costings and budgets.
  • Guide and mentor up and coming zoologists and collaborate with senior zoologists.

What you’ll bring

  • We are interested in a passionate candidate that can manage projects, lead field surveys, write technical reports and mentor junior staff
  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in zoology, biological or environmental science, or other relevant degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience conducting subterranean fauna field surveys, ideally with an environmental consultancy.
  • Ability to conduct field surveys in remote locations.
  • Subterranean fauna report writing experience, in accordance with current EPA guidance. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with developed technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current WA drivers’ licence and four-wheel drive experience.

Desirable:

  • Taxonomic experience in subterranean fauna groups is ideal, however any invertebrate taxonomic experience is desirable.
  • Project management and budget tracking experience. 
  • BHP S26 Supervisor Certification.
