Researcher - Family History

 

Link-Up (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation (Link-Up) assists all eligible Aboriginal people who have been directly affected by past government policies; being separated from their families and culture through forced removal; being fostered, adopted or raised in institutions. Link-Up supports the healing journeys of those removed delivering professional, culturally sensitive and confidential research, reunions and Social, Emotional and Wellbeing services.

The Full Time (35 hours per week) Researcher position is responsible for conducting research related to family history tracing for clients affected by Stolen Generation policies and practices.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The prime objective is to conduct research to confirm eligibility and family history research to find Aboriginal eligibility and identify Aboriginality and force-able removal.
  • Assist with phone/email inquiries and make referral when required.
  • Provide client case management plans.
  • Prepare and maintain client files.
  • Provide WARM referrals for clients to appropriate services.
  • Work with other service providers to enhance client outcomes.
  • Engage in the regular auditing of client files both hard copy and computer.
  • Use the National Foxtrot database to keep up to date client files.
  • Engage with Aboriginal, Torres Strait and non-Indigenous communities and other service providers.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Stolen Generation and the impact of past Government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.
  • Must be able to work 35 hours per week.
  • Demonstrated research skills.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and data base applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team including working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate written work.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services. Counselling, Social Work, Youth Work or a minimum 2 years experience within Social Services.
  • Willingness to obtain qualification within 12 months.
  • Case Management experience would be ideal.
  • Aboriginality is a genuine qualification and is authorised by Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
