The Australian Academy of Science’s President and career-long cancer research Professor Suzanne Cory has become the first Australian to be admitted into the Japanese Academy.

Professor Cory, visited Japan for the honour, is one of only 27 Honorary Members to be admitted into the Academy.

The Japanese Academy acknowledged Professor Cory’s tireless dedication to her field, saying: [Professor Cory’s] devotion to encourage young researchers of the world and Japan has been highly significant and enlightening”.

“I am proud to be the first Honorary Member representing Australia amongst a very special group of scientist from all around the world,” Professor Cory said.

Professor Cory also took the opportunity while in Japan to meet with the Japanese Academy of Science’s President, Dr Masaaki Kubo, to discuss bilateral research relationships.
