Billionaire Elon Musk has again given the world a glimpse of impending technological possibilities.

In his latest demonstration, the man who brought the Tesla electric car and the idea for the ‘Hyperloop’ super-sonic transporter system to the public’s eye has shown how several new developments could change the processes of design and manufacture.

Mr Musk has posted a video wherein he uses hand gestures translated onto a 3D desktop to design a component for a rocket, before printing the part out in titanium on an additive printer.

The video is a demonstration of currently available devices converging in a futuristic way. Advances in visual sensors, virtual reality environments and 3D printing could make the kind of activity Mr Musk depicted seem commonplace, not too long from now.
