Meat and Livestock Australia's general manager livestock production and innovation, Ian Johnsson, has resigned after being at the helm of the producer-owned red meat research and marketing company for 15 years.

"Ian has driven a focus on outputs and more efficient delivery of research information in collaboration with our many research, development and extension partners," MLA's outgoing managing director, David Palmer, said in a statement.

Under Ian's stewardship many programs have been developed and advanced to provide benefits to levy-payers, including sheep and beef genetics programs, and adoption programs, such as More Beef From Pastures, Making More From Sheep and Going into Goats, David said.

"He was also instrumental in the establishment of a comprehensive climate-change research program for both adaptation and mitigation, to assist industry to better understand and tackle this issue by focusing on those areas that will provide production as well as environmental benefits," he said.

Ian has also devoted much time to "cross-sectoral matters" such as the development of the National RD&E framework and strategy to ensure research agencies delivered a co-ordinated and cohesive approach to the broader agricultural industries, particularly the beef and sheepmeat sector.
