The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has awarded one of its most prestigious honours, the Rose-Hunt Award.

Presenting the award at the GP14 conference in Adelaide, RACGP President Dr Liz Marles acknowledged Professor Michael Kidd’s unwavering commitment to his profession and all areas of general practice.

“Professor Kidd steered the RACGP through a particularly tumultuous time for general practice during his two terms as RACGP President,” said Dr Marles.

“He is highly respected in primary healthcare circles both nationally and internationally where he has tirelessly served the profession with integrity and perseverance.”

Professor Kidd is President of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA), and represents the profession on a number of high-level national and international boards and committees.

He said he felt honoured to receive the Rose-Hunt award, particularly as some previous recipients had been among his mentors.

Professor Kidd has worked a GP since 1983, and is still involved in clinical practice despite several new roles as a policy-adviser and researcher.

The Rose-Hunt Award is presented to a GP who has given outstanding service in the promotion of the RACGP.
