EMBL Australia has expanded its participant membership, with all Australian Group of Eight (Go8) universities now involved.

The Australian National University, The University of Adelaide, The University of Melbourne, and The University of New South Wales have joined the EMBL Australia initiative, joining CSIRO and the four foundation Go8 universities in the national collaborative venture.

EMBL Australia was formed to maximise the benefits of Australia’s associate membership of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

“EMBL is the premier European life sciences research institution,” said Go8 Chair, Professor Paul Greenfield.

“Our association with EMBL is increasing the profile of Australian research and enhancing research collaboration between Australia and Europe.”

Australia is the first country awarded associate membership status of the EMBL, one of the world’s foremost life science research institutions.

EMBL Australia fosters and builds Australian research quality through the development of scientific leaders. It also provides a gateway to European research excellence and funding.

The participant members of EMBL Australia are now:

  • CSIRO
  • Australian National University
  • Monash University
  • The University of Adelaide
  • The University of Queensland
  • The University of Melbourne
  • The University of New South Wales
  • The University of Sydney

EMBL Australia is also supported by the Australian Government, the Victorian Government, the Australian Research Council and The National Health and Medical Research Council.
