Twelve research projects led by regional universities have been awarded funding totalling $61.5 million under the Federal Government’s Collaborative Research Networks (CRN) program.

 

The projects, their funding and their lead and partner institutions are as follows:

  • Murray Darling Basin Futures: A collaborative network integrating natural and social science research to support evidence-based policy, resource management and sustainable rural communities. $6.3 million; led by University of Canberra, partnered by Australian National University, Charles Sturt University, University of Southern Queensland, CSIRO, National Water Commission, Murray Darling Basin Authority, Dep’t of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences.

  • Excellence in research in early years education; $5,396,181; led by Charles Sturt University, partnered by Monash University and Queensland University of Technology.

  • CRN for Mental Health and Well-being in Rural Regions; $4.8 million. Led by University of New England; partnered by La Trobe University, University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, Hunter New England Area Health Service.

  • Policy and Planning research for sustainable regions; $4,639,448. Led by Southern Cross University; partnered by University of New South Wales, University of Sydney and University of Queensland.

  • Northern Research Futures (NRF) - a program of national collaborative social coastal/marine and environmental research and innovation in the northern Australian region; $5,038,353. Led by Charles Darwin University; partnered by Australian National University, James Cook University, Australian Institute of Marine Science.

  • Australian Indigenous Research and Researcher Development Project; $1,533,451. Led by Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education; partnered by Monash University, Australian National University, Charles Darwin University, Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

  • Health Collaborative Research Network - particularly: Social and Population Health; Medical and Allied Health Sciences; Mental Health; Quality outcomes in Health Care; and, Industrial and Environmental Health; $5,530,300. Led by Central Queensland University, partnered by Curtin University, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology.

  • Digital Futures, $5.1 million. Led by University of Southern Queensland; partnered by Australian National University and University of South Australia.

  • USC Research Futures Project; $5,450,000. Led by University of the Sunshine Coast; partnered by Griffith University, University of Tasmania and Queensland University of Technology.

  • Self-sustaining Regions Research and Innovation Initiative, $5,954,970. Led by University of Ballarat, partnered by Deakin University, University of Melbourne and Monash University.

  • Education, active living and water; $6,142,245. Led by Victoria University; partnered by Melbourne University, Deakin University, Edith Cowan University and CSIRO.

  • Growing research excellence at Edith Cowan University; $5,615,052. Led by Edith Cowan University, partnered by University of Adelaide, Deakin University, Flinders University, University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, University of South Australia, University of Sydney, and University of Western Australia.
