The Australian Government has called for applications under Round Six of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund,  which provides support to Australian  and Indian scientists for the conduct of joint research projects and workshops in specified research areas.

 

There are two components of the Fund for which applications are being sought:

 

1. The Indo-Australian Fund for Scientific and Technological Cooperation.


Priority research areas for collaborative projects in Round Six are:

  • Material Science including Nanotechnology
  • Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Environmental Science including Climate Change Research

Priority areas of research for collaborative workshops are:

  • Agricultural Research
  • Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Environment Sciences (including climate change research)
  • Micro-electronics Devices and Materials
  • Material science (including nanotechnology)
  • Renewable Energy
  • Marine Sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Information and Communication Technology

2. The Indo-Ausstralian Fund for Scientific and Technological Cooperation in Biotechnology.

 

Priority areas of research for collaborative projects are:

  • Stem Cells
  • Transgenic Crops and Marker-assisted Breeding
  • Bioenergy and Biofuels
  • Vaccines / Medical Diagnostics

 

The priority areas of research for collaborative workshops are:

  • Biomedical Devices and Implants
  • Stem Cells
  • Transgenic Crops and Marker-assisted Breeding
  • Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods
  • Bioremediation
  • Bioenergy and Biofuels
  • Vaccines / Medical Diagnostics

 

Established in 2006, the fund has a total commitment from the Australian Government of $65 million, matched by the Indian Government. It is Australia’s largest fund dedicated to bilateral collaboration in science with any country. It is also one of India’s largest sources of support for international collaboration in science.
