Associate Professor, Level D/Course Coordinator (Information Tech Discipline)
The Course Coordinator (Information Technology) will be appointed as Level D Academic and will be responsible for a mix of some teaching and research plus leadership of the discipline and the pastoral care of students within our Information Technology courses.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with key personnel, the Course Coordinator will contribute to the management and coordination of CIHE’s Information Technology courses, services to students, effectiveness in learning, teaching, and assessment practices through the following functions:
- Guide and monitor the delivery of one or more of CIHE’s courses and quality assure the effectiveness of the learning and teaching environment.
- Teaching as directed, including the planning, preparation and delivery of educational activities that facilitate active learning experiences and student engagement, including duties as a Lecturer in Charge of classes within one or more disciplines.
- Contribute to the management, growth and development of CIHE by participating actively in the committee structure of CIHE.
- Support the Dean to maintain CIHE’s course review, improvement, and renewal of courses, administer course accreditation processes and help position CIHE as a quality assured higher education provider.
- Create a rewarding, collegial and cooperative work environment for all educators and academic support staff and an engaging and dynamic learning environment for students.
- Ensure that academic policies are implemented, regularly monitored, reviewed and improved.
- Monitor the quality and adequacy of learning resources, infrastructure, and support systems to facilitate for students the achievement of course and subject learning outcomes.
- Implement strategies to enhance the student experience, pastoral care, student success and retention.
- Maintain personal currency through membership of the industry body relevant to the Course Coordinator’s personal academic discipline and through engagement in a research and scholarly activity that produces scholarly publication outcomes.
Selection Criteria
The following selection criteria are essential to this role:
Academic and Professional Standing
- Demonstrated record of personal initiative to seek responsibility for educational leadership functions.
- Demonstrated level of experience in their academic discipline with evidence of ongoing research and scholarship.
- Knowledge of professional and industry issues and trends in the core discipline areas of CIHE.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the professional body covering the discipline.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Information Technology or related field.
Management experience
- Demonstrated academic coordination experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation of strategies that will promote excellence in all areas of CIHE including an effective learning work environment.
Personal abilities/skills
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through guiding, inspiring and influencing staff in the achievement of the core academic activities of a higher education provider.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to operate within a broadly defined role that can be expected to change as CIHE expands.
- Demonstrated ability to develop the educational standing and profile of CIHE.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
- A genuine service orientation and a capacity for pastoral care.
- A clear understanding of the broader national and international context of higher education and the business, government and industry context in which graduates will work.
- A clear understanding of the regulatory framework for higher Education and the accreditation requirements of the professional bodies relevant to the discipline.
- An altruistic motivation, including a service orientation and a capacity to implement the principles underpinning antidiscrimination, student equity, workplace health and safety and all other relevant legislation.
