The Centre for Better Relationships (The Centre) is a new research initiative by Better Place Australia and aims to influence the research and policy landscape by generating quality assured research outputs that will be amply disseminated and enrich the debate. Working closely with the Research Manager, specific objectives of the role include:
- Using rigorous, evidence-based approaches to research
- Meeting the requirements of the National Statement for Ethical Conduct in Human Research, 2007 and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, 2018
- Assist in the commission of valuable research as a means of advocacy to decision makers
- Assist in building the organisation’s reputation as a thought leader.
This role is a unique early career opportunity for someone who is looking to use their passion for social justice, research, and policy to contribute to the sector. The appointee will be identifying new policy and advocacy opportunities for The Centre and using tech-savvy approaches to further our position as a thought leader.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Prospective candidates will hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in the social sciences with a strong applied research component and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. Highly developed qualitative and quantitative research design and data analysis skills are essential as is a demonstrated ability to contribute to independent and team-based research. Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications is essential as is a proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams. Prospective candidates who have a solid understanding of research methods and who enjoy writing are particularly encouraged to apply. Ideally, you are comfortable using your well-developed interpersonal skills to network with relevant stakeholders and are keen to contribute to both policy and advocacy work. A self-motivated approach with the ability to deliver outcomes with minimal direct supervision is highly desirable.
