 Senior Botanist


Biosis is looking to appoint an experienced senior botanist join our team in Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.   

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout Victoria and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Biosis is seeking a senior botanist with extensive field experience in botany and highly capable of providing sound environmental advice and guidance to our clients.  Your responsibilities will include participating in, conducting and managing projects, and the production of technical reports. Additional duties will include; survey design and implementation, proposal writing, sales and establishing a profile in the professional community as a senior botanist.

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ecology or botany
  • A minimum of five years of botanical experience, preferably in consultancy or the public sector
  • Strong plant identification skills, with experience in Victoria
  • Habitat Hectare accreditation
  • Strong report writing and proposal writing skills
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to ecology
  • Strong experience with field survey design and implementation
  • Experience in sales and business development including proposal preparation, client liaison and consultation
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages
  • A current manual driver's licence
  • Experience with project management, including budgets.
  • Australian citizenship/residency or the right to work permanently in Australia.
