About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow with experience human biomechanics and wearable assistive technology (ie., exoskeletons). This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise and an emerging research profile within the disciplines of biomechanics, ALS, and bio-engineering. You will also contribute to student supervision, commensurate with your level of experience.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Initiate and develop independent research projects aligned with the broader theme of wearable assistive devices, with a particular focus on patients with Motor Neuron Diease (MND) and other neuromuscular diseases
  • Lead experimental data collection and analysis at the interface of clinical gait analysis and bio-robotics including management and analysis of multi-scale datasets
  • Research Project Management in overseeing the day-to-day management of research projects. This includes conducting literature reviews, data analysis and archiving, and developing data processing pipelines.
  • Work with biomedical sciences, clinical, and engineering colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.
  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
  • Publication and Presentation: Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present your work at scientific conferences.
  • Research Program Development: Establish and develop a coherent research program to enhance your emerging research profile.
  • Student Supervision: Contribute effectively to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research (PhD and Masters) students, as appropriate to your level of experience.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position through until January 2026. At Academic level A, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,324.85 - $102,945.12, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to$90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in biomechanics and assistive technology, or related fields.
  • Evidence of publications in refereed journals and conference presentations
  • Strong experience in integrative human biomechanics data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation—including experience in working with clinical populations.
  • Experience in the application and testing of wearable assistive technologies in human participants
  • Flexibility and ability to work both unsupervised and as a member of a team.
  • Proficient in techniques including 3D motion capture, kinetic and mechanical analysis, ultrasonography, electromyography, musculoskeletal modelling, and familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) as well as OpenSim.
