About This Opportunity
UQ's Research Networks are designed to develop a coordinated strategy to foster strong partnerships with other universities, government, industry or publicly funded research organisations and have a demonstrable focus on research directed towards societal benefit and impact. Formed by a coalition of many independent internal research groups who represent strong underlying expertise at UQ, Research Networks signify a large-scale capability that could be deployed in various combinations to address the challenges of a changing world.

The purpose of this role is to lead UQ's Energy Transition Network and position UQ as a leader in Energy Transition research and policy advice and facilitate the growth of UQ's Energy Transition related research income, scope and impact.

The Director will drive a cohesive, coordinated approach to draw together research capabilities and expertise from across UQ to focus on Energy Transition challenges and opportunities facing Queensland, Australia and the world.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide overall strategic leadership for Energy Transition research activities including ongoing engagement with our UQ community to coordinate research direction and align internal capabilities with external priorities.
  • Establish an internal leadership team of senior energy researchers and develop processes to (i) create high-impact research proposals and initiatives; and (ii) facilitate collaboration across UQ with various Faculties, Institutes, Research Centres and Networks.
  • Engage across UQ to identify current and future Energy Transition research needs and potential capability gaps.
  • Develop an Energy Transition multi-disciplinary research strategy to create innovative large-scale research initiatives in consultation with industry, government and community partners.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 5 years.

About You

  • Internationally recognised excellence and reputation in a relevant discipline.
  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant disciplinary area; or exceptional eminence and thought leadership in their field, evidenced by significant influence in the external sector.
  • Outstanding impact and accomplishments in their field, resulting in wide-spread recognition as an industry expert in a material part of Queensland / Australian energy sector.
