The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking two highly motivated, outcome-driven senior executives to fill the positions of Deputy Director-General Signals Intelligence and Network Operations (DDGSNO), and Deputy Director-General and Head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (HACSC) (SES Band 3 equivalent positions) based in Canberra ACT. The roles report directly to the Director-General ASD.

DDGSNO is responsible for signals intelligence collection, analysis and production, ASD’s network-based access and effects operations including offensive cyber. You will lead the group through a far-reaching transformation and evolution recognising the rapid pace of development in technology and data science, and fluid international security environment, while continuing to deliver on the operational requirements of the position.

You will have a demonstrated ability to deliver organisational outcomes across foreign signals intelligence, network operations and access, and engage with high order operational risks. You will also be the Government’s authority on signals intelligence and network operations with the responsibility to advise and act on highly sensitive, time critical and complex matters with whole of Government significance. You will have the demonstrated ability to leverage and sustain productive working relationships across the Australian Defence Force, National Intelligence Community, international and domestic partners, and industry.
HACSC will ensure that the ACSC is Australia’s peak technical cyber security authority, delivering programs and capabilities that will proactively reduce cyber security risk for stakeholders across industry, academia and government. You will lead the ACSC to deliver clear and timely advice and information to individuals, small to medium business, big business and critical infrastructure operators, enabling them to understand and act on contemporary cyber security threats and seize opportunities at speed and scale. You will also be the Government’s authority on operational cyber security, responsible for shaping and uplifting Australia’s national cyber security ecosystem to help make Australia the safest place to connect online. You will sustain internal and external relationships, including internationally, to leverage a breadth of capabilities and contributions to achieve maximum benefit for the nation.

Both roles are members of ASD’s Executive. You will make a substantial contribution to shaping the agency’s strategic priorities by anticipating and responding to external drivers that may impact ASD’s operations, upholding good governance and making complex decisions balancing opportunity and risk-based outcomes.

You will exemplify ASD’s Values, respect diverse ideas and perspectives, and foster a culture of ingenuity and agility. You will be innovative, consultative, resilient and personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results. As a leader, you will be experienced in exercising sound judgment to ensure the delivery of competing requirements in a highly dynamic strategic, technical and social environment, during a time of increasing demand. Additionally you will have demonstrated adaptive leadership capabilities to develop a high-performing operational and technical workforce operating in a challenging and high-pressured environment.
Whilst experience working within the National Intelligence Community is not a pre-requisite, you will have a solid understanding of government processes and demonstrated success in working with ministers.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant must be an Australian citizen and will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level and must be able to be cleared to Top Secret Positive Vetting.
