RESEARCH SCIENTIST

  • $84,019 – $95,329 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed term, 3 years
  • Usual Work Hours: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Ellinbank (flexibility may be available)

The focus of this position will be research projects to improve the profitability of pasture based dairy systems. Working in an innovative research environment, the position involves field and laboratory based experimental activities, and implementation of pasture and animal-based sensor technologies, with particular reference to ruminant nutrition in grazing-based systems. You will have the opportunity to work alongside internationally recognised scientists, further develop your experience in designing and implementing experiments, add to your publication record and be involved in supervising post graduate students.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate –

  • a degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent science qualification, with post-graduate qualifications in grazing ecology, animal physiology or ruminant nutrition;
  • knowledge of the principles and operation of ruminant production systems, with knowledge of dairy production systems in Victoria and Australia;
  • experience undertaking both field and laboratory based experimental studies and in interpretation and applicability of generated information;
  • effective participation in research project teams, leadership of research projects and of working with minimal supervision and high levels of initiative;
  • well-developed communication skills, relationship-building capacity, and a record of scientific publication and conference participation; and
  • ability to effectively supervise staff with, experience in postgraduate student supervision an advantage.

The position of Research Scientist sits within DJPR and is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Branch within the Agriculture Victoria Group.
