WayAhead has an exciting opportunity for an honours or masters qualified researcher to work on the new Check Up from the Neck Up population wellbeing screening tool.

Development of the tool is supported by the Mental Health Commission of NSW, and will be rolled out at select events throughout 2018 and 2019.

Check Up from the Neck Up will be used for the general population to get a snapshot of their emotional and mental wellbeing, as well as offering further information, and recommended next steps.

We are seeking an experienced researcher, with a good knowledge of Health Promotion, Population Health, and/or Mental Health to undertake initial research and develop the questions which will form the basis of the tool.

The work will be for approximately three months.

WayAhead - Mental Health Association NSW is an established and respected NGO promoting mental health and wellbeing through education, support and advocacy. Amongst our range of programs are October’s Mental Health Month, a Workplace Well-being program and a directory of mental health and community services. Role description
.The Research Assistant role provides research and reports for the development of the “Check Up from the Neck Up” tool. The role is contract-based, and will assist in the initial research and development of a web-based, public mental health and well-being assessment tool.


Duties and Responsibilities
ï‚· Produce comprehensive literature reviews
ï‚· Conduct population wellbeing and needs analysis through existing literature
ï‚· Assist Mental Health Promotions Officer in the development of questions and scales for tool
ï‚· Determine data collection and relationships requirements for the tool
ï‚· Prepare reports
ï‚· Assist Mental Health Promotions Officer in designing evaluation frameworks
ï‚· Comprehensively document procedures relating to the research
ï‚· Assist Mental Health Promotions Officer in writing recommendation report
ï‚· Performing data synthesis and producing evidence tables
ï‚· Other research assistance as required


General responsibilities
ï‚· Act in accordance with the principles of consumer empowerment and inclusion
ï‚· Act in accordance with WayAhead’s established policies and procedures, with particular attention to the Code of Conduct and our Charter
ï‚· Act at all times in accordance with the Disability Services Act 1993
ï‚· Participate in regular team meetings and other meetings of the Association
ï‚· Promote awareness of the benefits of WayAhead membership and encourage people to be involved in the its activities
ï‚· Promote WayAhead’s services and campaigns
ï‚· Represent the views of WayAhead at external meetings as required
ï‚· Report all hazards, near misses, incidents and accidents to the Collective Purpose HR Manager and record in the book established for this purpose
ï‚· Exercise duty of care to other staff and visitors to the Collective Purpose premises
ï‚· Generally contribute to the life and wellbeing of WayAhead and all its constituents

Essential Criteria
ï‚· Honours or Post-Graduate degree in public health, health promotion, or related field
ï‚· Experience conducting research in public mental health and wellbeing
ï‚· Proven experience in both qualitative and quantitative techniques
ï‚· Excellent communication skills, including the capacity to write for a variety of audiences
ï‚· Interest in and experience with public mental health and wellbeing, and using research to inform these activities
ï‚· Proven understanding of strengths-based approaches to mental health and wellbeing
ï‚· Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and efficiently achieve tasks within agreed timeframes.
ï‚· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable Criteria
ï‚· Experience developing public health assessment tools
