ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration

The ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration is a joint research initiative of Curtin University, Kings Park and the University of Western Australia. The Centre aims to deliver a suite of integrated and focused research projects underpinning successful mining restoration outcomes in collaboration with multiple industry partners.

PhD Overview

A scholarship with the ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration is available to undertake a PhD in the theme of Restoration Ecophysiology. The project is a unique opportunity to work with some of the world’s leading plant ecologists in cutting edge restoration science. The aim of the program is to use quantitative ecophysiological traits to assess plant function and plant condition, in order to support management decisions about how to design resilient restoration communities and substrates, as well as monitor restoration success.

The successful applicant will be enrolled through the University of Western Australia and research will be supervised by A/Prof Jean Yong, Prof Erik Veneklaas, Dr Jason Stevens, and Prof Grant Wardell-Johnson.

Value

The Centre for Mine Site Restoration Postgraduate Scholarships provide an annual stipend for up to three years. Successful candidates will receive a stipend of $30,746 p/a tax-free stipend + operating funds.

Eligibility criteria

Students with a relevant Honours or Masters degree, or who can demonstrate equivalence through work experience and/or publication(s). Must be eligible to enrol in a PhD at the University of Western Australia.
