The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health has more than 600 staff and students who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. We are internationally renowned for our discoveries and research on the central nervous system and associated brain disorders.

Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

About the role:

An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding team of scientists and staff, and work within the Ion Channels and Human Diseases Laboratory at our Parkville facility.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists to work on behavioral and electrophysiology measurements in mouse models created to mimic genetic mutations associated with childhood epilepsies. The candidate will work within and across disciplines in the Florey lab to identify and validate novel targets, and to drive discovery research programs into early clinical development.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor (Honours), Master or Doctoral Degree in Physiology, neuroscience or related area
  • Experience in handling and drug administration in small animals as well as in stereotaxic recovery surgery in mice or rats
  • Data analysis, record-keeping and data interpretation skills are required.

The salary on offer is in the range of $64,929 (RA1) - $79,071 (RA5) commensurate with experience, plus generous superannuation and salary packaging options.
