The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health has more than 600 staff and students who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. We are internationally renowned for our discoveries and research on the central nervous system and associated brain disorders.

Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

About the role:

An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding team of scientists and staff, and work within the Synapse Biology and Cognition Laboratory at our Parkville facility.

The candidate will be responsible for leading and developing programs of research involving experimental design, planning and execution, and staff/student training. Other duties include contributing to the preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts and university level safety and ethics approvals. The candidate will also be involved in laboratory maintenance and other lab-based techniques.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Doctoral degree in biological science (or equivalent),
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, grant and ethics applications,
  • Knowledge and experience of histological techniques and fluorescent confocal microscopy.
  • Skills in small animal handling is desirable.

The salary on offer is in the range of $82,086 - $88,116 commensurate with experience, plus generous superannuation and salary packaging options.
