 One in five Australians is affected by a brain disorder each year. The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health employs more than 400 people who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. We are internationally renowned for our discoveries and research on the central nervous system and associated brain disorders. Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding team of scientists at the Florey Institute and work within the Synaptic Neurobiology Team at our Parkville facility. The role will primarily be responsible for coordinating and performing research; examining the underlying mechanisms of brain injury that may lead to functional decline (particularly in relation to cognition) in animal models of traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy; and then assess therapeutic approaches to improve outcomes.

The Florey is offering an indicative salary in the range of $78,667 to $84,446 commensurate on experience (plus superannuation and generous salary packaging options).

The successful candidate will be responsible for Investigating the cellular mechanisms (focused on metals and metalloproteins) that occur following brain injuries of different etiologies in mice across lifespan; analysis of behavioural testing; and analysis of tissues collected. You will need to have knowledge in mouse brain anatomy and expertise in animal models of brain injury and behavioural testing. Relevant skills in histological techniques and microscopy is required.
