About the role

The Ian Potter Foundation recently awarded funding to a transdisciplinary research team in the Faculty of Science for the project: Risks from blue-green algal blooms; monitoring emerging neurotoxins.

This research brings together an impressive faculty wide team with expertise in neurotoxicity, ecology, and analytical chemistry and aligns with the UTS vision for the use of novel technologies to solve major national and international research questions. It involves monitoring blue-green algal blooms in western NSW for the presence of the neurotoxins BMAA and DAB, and determining if mussels can be useful bioindicators for these neurotoxins.

There is now an opportunity for a part-time Research Associate to assist in the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analyses that underpin this exciting project.

About you

You have considerable experience in the development and application of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to problems in analytical / and bioanalytical chemistry including experience in quantitative analysis and an understanding of the validation of analytical tests.

You have a track record of participation in high performing teams engaged in innovative research exploring new areas of knowledge and an ability to undertake original research, as evidenced by timely and high-quality research outputs.

You will also bring to the role outstanding interpersonal, communication and writing skills. You must also have the capacity to undertake environmental field sampling

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: pro rata $78,952 - $96,158p.a. (Academic Level A)

This role attracts 9.5% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is part-time (0.4FTE) and appointment will be on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
