About the Research Office

The Research Office is a central unit within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and supports research activities across UTS in partnership with the faculty research offices and other support units, including identifying and accessing research funding, contracts, ethics, post-award, IP management and commercialisation and research data intelligence. To constantly improve how we support our researchers, the Research Office is adopting a new operational team structure.

The Research Grants team aims to identify, develop and support new grant funding opportunities to build on the scale, quality and reach of UTS’s research activities, and deliver impact through the translation of outcomes into practical use.

About the role

The International Research Grants Manager plays a critical role in the Research Grants team developing and supporting research projects and collaborations in support of the UTS strategic vision to increase research of international significance, through its proactive focus on global connections.

The International Research Grants Manager contributes to the enablement of UTS researchers to identify, compete for and successfully execute high quality research with international partners and funders. The role represents the research portfolio in interactions around international grant development and submission support, and contributes to the University’s efforts to raise its international research profile.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Identifying, investigating and developing new international grant opportunities to achieve the strategic objective to increase the diversity and scale of UTS research income.
  • Managing the development and submission of proposals for international, competitive grant funding, including the provision of high level proposal review and quality assurance.
  • Providing high-level reporting to UTS senior executive on international grant opportunities and funding.
  • Mapping areas of UTS research strength and capability to develop innovative research collaborations (including multi- and trans-disciplinary approaches) aimed at the development and submission of international research proposals that will be able to leverage and sustain national and international partnerships.
  • Delivering and developing materials for training and briefings for researchers covering international funding opportunities, grant writing, and research management, to ensure access to high quality information and educational support.
  • Providing advice and assistance for structuring researcher capabilities and partnerships.
  • Reviewing proposal evaluation outcomes and provide constructive feedback on improving future submissions.
  • Contributing to feedback initiatives at an individual and university-wide level for unfunded grant applications in order to strive for constant improvement and drive competitiveness.
  • Managing the delivery of ongoing support to researchers with funded international grants to ensure compliance with report and audit requirements and prompt resolution of problems by liaising with Faculty Research Offices, Finance, and accessing other relevant UTS resources.
  • Managing the lifecycle for international grant funding from pre-award support to post-award establishment and end of project reporting.

To be successful in securing the role you will have:

  • Strong people skills - a highly competent communicator, able to interact successfully with a wide range of people, including the ability to work collaboratively and persuasively across a diverse university community.
  • Working knowledge of the current Australian Higher Education sector as well as the international research grant funding landscape.
  • Understanding of the imperative for universities to engage with end users of research.
  • Experience in identifying, attracting and managing international research grant funding.
  • Experience of using international online grant submission and management systems such as those used by the European Commission and US government funders.
  • Experience in brokering interdisciplinary research collaborations and supporting international research collaborations.
  • Experience contributing to strategic planning at departmental level.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, and excellent presentation and writing skills, including the capacity to form and justify substantial recommendations, strategies and initiatives.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $99,324 to $113,119 pa (HEW 8)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis
