About the Research Office

The Research Office is a central unit within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and provides support for research activities across UTS in partnership with the faculty research offices and other support units, including identifying and accessing research funding, contracts, ethics, post-award, IP management and commercialisation and research data intelligence. In order to continually improve the way we support our researchers, the Research Office is adopting a new operational team structure.

About the role:

As the Research Engagement Associate (REA), is based in the Research Office and enables UTS researchers to identify, compete for and successfully execute high quality research projects with funding from a broad range of sources, including industry, Federal, State and Local Government, not-for-profit organisations and other grant-providers, both domestically and internationally. The incumbent in this role will work on their activities to assist research in obtaining grants and funding, in line with the UTS 2027 strategy, which defines our vision and activities for the future.

Day to day you will:

  • Engage with researchers and/or groups/centres to help researchers obtain research project funding, this will require the incumbent to draft, review, edit and provide feedback to UTS researchers on funding applications and proposals
  • coordinate staff and activities directed at winning funding for major research activities
  • contribute to the facilitate relationship meetings with external stakeholders with the aim of concluding funding agreements addressing pricing, costing, intellectual property arrangements, project milestones and deliverables
  • assist in the development and implementation of competitive research grant funding applications
  • support the research office and team on the implementation of the Research Strategy, in particular during major grant rounds such as ARVC and NHMRC.

 To be successful in securing the role you will have:

  • Works well under pressure, delivers against deadlines and within the context of continuous improvement and positive culture change
  • some knowledge of the higher education funding system in Australia and overseas, including competitive grants, major Centre funding and industry funding
  • marketing/sales skills, including market analysis, competitor analysis and positioning
  • experience with funding and/or contract research agreements
  • tertiary qualifications in a relevant technical or business discipline.

Candidates with exposure to drafting legal contracts and agreements will be considered highly desirable.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $90, 439pa to $97,668 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 9.5% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.
