About the Research Office

The Research Office is a central unit within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and supports research activities across UTS in partnership with the faculty research offices and other support units, including identifying and accessing research funding, contracts, ethics, post-award, IP management and commercialisation and research data intelligence. To constantly improve how we support our researchers, the Research Office is adopting a new operational team structure.

In support of our endeavor to undertake excellent research that delivers global impact UTS is empowering our staff by reshaping business processes and technical systems. By doing do, we will better leverage and integrate our corporate data assets to ensure secure and ready access for staff to support research, teaching and learning and simplify electronic business processes in order to improve decision-making and accountability, and develop workflows to better connect these processes with associated systems.

About the role

As the Research Application Programing Interface (API) Analyst your key focus will be on improving and maximising the appropriate improvement, provisioning and use of the university’s research systems data. Working with APIs for a range of internal and external systems, you will augment and move data between UTS systems and external systems, including bulk data updates, data cleansing and provision of data for reporting. Visibility of research data is an integral part of strategy and planning for UTS.

At Level 6 you will be responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and up-to-date advice to the University Research Community regarding data specifications and what is available 
  • Reporting problems found while performing regular tasks to the Research Intelligence Quality Team – such problems may not only be technical but could also be process or data related, and may indicate further issues with the process or system. 
  • The creation and maintenance of API documentation, including a menu of research related APIs. 
  • Providing responses to ‘how to’ questions advise application clients on how to use features in the application 
  • Testing - participate in testing the applications and associated software during changes and upgrades 
  • Highlighting issues with the API’s, trouble shoot and raise issues with IT support or managers if required.  

 At Level 7 you will be responsible for:

  • Strategic suggestions to the use and set up of API’s
  • Developing and maintain a roadmap for API use 
  • Providing pro-active advice to the University Research Community regarding API potential 
  • Ensuring standard operating procedures are reassessed 
  • Project Managing API updates and changes 
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of how UTS uses API’s in the research space 
  • Evaluate and advise on the potential impact to administrative support processes due to the introduction of new or changed functionality. 
  • Suggesting configuration settings, work-arounds or changes to processes to mitigate potential problems 
  • Troubleshooting existing issues around research knowledge management. 
  • Working with vendors to support issues and investigations with regards to the API’s 

 To be successful in securing the role you will have:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to make sensitive judgement concerning data.
  • Excellent scripting skills.
  • Ability to discern and distil business requirements. Should be able to transform the ideas of staff and implement appropriate solutions in the organization
  • Proven ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external clients at all levels and from diverse backgrounds
  • A professional and proactive approach to managing responsibilities and customer service with the ability to handle pressure and competing priorities
  • Broad knowledge of relevant research policies and environments, and the role of research within the higher education sector
  • Completion of an undergraduate qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Experience with implementing and championing the use of APIs.
  • Experience in building collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $80,099 to $97,668 pa (HEW 6/7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis
