The Marine Microbial Initiative (MMI) project entitled ~Defining the evolvable phenotype landscape for marine phytoplankton ~ is focused on understanding  the rules governing allowable phenotypes for marine phytoplankton and  the environmental selection pressures that drive phytoplankton to a new phenotype. The project comprises of a team of researchers based at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), the University of Southern California (USA) and the University of Edinburgh (UK).
 
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to provide specialised skills to drive and support the research associated with this recently funded project.  You will utilise your expertise in microbial trait quantification and evolution to support laboratory based research and contribute to the goals of the project.
 
You will be a pivotal member of the research team tasked with delivering this leading-edge research.
 
To succeed you will bring to this role:
  • A PhD in microbial or phytoplankton ecology, molecular biology, microbial oceanography or equivalent
  • Extensive conceptual and hands-on knowledge of culturing microbes and molecular biology techniques, with particular experience in quantitative trait approaches and substantial experience in conducting experiments with phytoplankton and other microbes
  • Ability to use and interpret sophisticated quantitative and statistical approaches for analysing and interpreting data
  • Knowledge of PC2 laboratory regulations and requirements
  • Experience and success in conducting experimental research and publishing research as a first-author.
You will also have high level interpersonal skills and an ability to interact with all levels within the university and research sector.
 
Remuneration
Base Salary Range: $86,086 to $92, 406p.a. (academic Level A)
 
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
