Since our establishment in 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.

Within the Strategy and Support Division, the Research and Program Governance Unit manages the research policies and processes and clinical trials activities for Cancer Council Victoria. The Unit oversees the competitive funding for clinical and biomedical research in Victorian hospitals, universities and medical research institutes. The Unit provides secretariat support for Cancer Council Victoria’s Human Research Ethics Committee and operates as the Research Administration Office for external funding bodies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The Unit also oversees Cancer Council Victoria’s Cancer Trials Management Scheme.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Grants Coordinator with a passion for process improvement, to be an integral member of the Research and Program Governance Unit.

Reporting to the Head of Research and Program Governance, you will be responsible for:

• Administering the grants programs of Cancer Council Victoria, striving for continuous improvement in grant selection and administration processes
• Building effective relationships as the National Grants secretariat contact between the NHMRC, Cancer Council Victoria and other Australian Cancer Councils
• Supporting Cancer Council Victoria researchers with advice and information on NHMRC grant applications
• Developing and reviewing grants policies and procedures within the scope of the grants programs of Cancer Council Victoria

All about you

You will thrive as Research Grants Coordinator if you have the initiative and drive to take the lead administering and developing our grants programs and related activities.

Ideally you will have degree qualifications in a related relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, combined with:

• Substantial experience undertaking grants program or equivalent administration activities, preferably in a medical research environment and with familiarity of NHMRC processes
• Strong attention to detail with sound analytical skills and proven track record in managing databases
• Sound decision-making skills and the ability to apply good judgement and quick thinking to effectively problem solve
• Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and manage formal committees
• Demonstrated success in reviewing and updating policies and procedures, in relation to grants or equivalent administrative processes

What we can offer you

This full-time fixed term position for 3 years provides a salary within range $77,000 - $83,000 pa plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card.
