This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in research in the field of Early Detection and Early Intervention in cerebral palsy. The Research Fellow provides professional expertise and skills in research methodology, research design, data collection, data analysis, and the interpretation and evaluation of results. This role will be embedded within the Research Team, supported by the Theme Lead for Early Detection and Intervention and senior research fellow and provide assistance on a variety of projects. Additionally, you will be undertaking developmental assessments and providing intervention to infants and children with cerebral palsy.

You will be based at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Institute at Camperdown, Brain and Mind Centre, The University of Sydney. You will work with other multidisciplinary subject matter experts and academic researchers.

You will be required to travel from time to time within Sydney Metropolitan Area.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Establish future research directions and strategies in collaboration with the Research leadership team, to ensure achievement of agreed goals and objectives
• Lead the implementation of designated research projects; define research objectives and questions, review and synthesise the outcomes of research studies, and develop ideas for application
• Produce high quality research outputs that significantly contribute to the prevention and cure of Cerebral Palsy
• Carry out independent research to further develop insights and knowledge into the prevention and cure of Cerebral Palsy
• Maintain awareness and play a lead role in identifying opportunities to generate funding in order to support future research projects
• Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships to ensure the successful delivery of current and future research projects and clinical trials
• Produce peer-reviewed research papers, journal articles and materials for publication as a principal researcher to disseminate research findings
• Present at national or international conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events to communicate findings with the scientific audience

Essential criteria:

• PhD qualification
• Substantial experience in paediatric physiotherapy, including working with infants and toddlers with cerebral palsy or similar conditions, and their families
• Extensive experience conducting clinical trials in cerebral palsy eg delivering per protocol intervention and /or data collection
• Advanced General Movements Assessment certification
• Experience with conducting a variety of CP specific and other paediatric assessments
• Robust numeracy skills and demonstrated attention to detail, with experience in quantitative research methods, data administration, collection and analyses
• Solid computer skills using relevant software for quantitative research, e.g. REDcap, EndNote, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Excellent organisational and administration skills, including the ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated well-developed scientific writing skills with proven ability to effectively analyse literature and produce clear, succinct high quality outputs, including website content, publications and presentations for a diverse audience
• Flexibility to work at multiple work sites across Sydney as needed
• A current WWCC and a national police check or willingness to obtain prior to commencement in the role.
