Overview:

  • The Radio Frequency (RF) Countermeasures Engineer under limited guidance or direction will be responsible for the design, development, calibration, programming and operation of digital and RF electronic warfare (EW) equipment required by the RF Electronic Attack (RFEA) group to conduct S&T investigations, experimentation, and trials in the area of electronic attack (EA).
  • The RF Countermeasures Engineer will have stakeholder engagement and will be required to identify relevant expectations to deliver services and achieve outcomes. Engagement is with both internal and external organisations and includes liaison, collaboration and contribution to small to large teams for RFEA testing activities, programs and projects; including, other DST Group branches and divisions, external suppliers, defence contractors, ADF, academic and international partner organisations.

Duties and Key Result Areas:

  • The work will include tasks related to developmental and operational EW and RF test equipment and simulation, hardware in the loop and field/flight testing activities; for air, maritime and land EA programs. RFEA group equipment requires ongoing upgrades, maintenance, programming and interfacing at various testing facility and in different operational environments. 
  • Analysis and presentation of results of activities and tasks to internal and external stakeholders.
  • The RF Countermeasures Engineer may lead a small team and is expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work group. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

Key requirements of the role:

  • They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives.
  • They will have significant knowledge of a wide range of digital and or RF techniques and applications and the ability to provide alternative solutions to identified problems.    
  • Good S&T verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness/ability to travel and conduct trials work, including in remote locations (typically 1 to 4 weeks).

Qualifications:

  • It is expected that the successful candidate will have a trade certificate, associate diploma, diploma or higher degree from an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas qualification, in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Communications or related field or equivalent qualifications and/or extensive experience appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.
