Position Overview:
An S&T3-4 Satellite Navigation Electronic Warfare Specialist position exists within the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) & Navigation Warfare discipline of Position Navigation and Timing Technologies & Systems (PNTTS) Group, Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division (CEWD), which is based at DST Group, Edinburgh. The position reports to line management in CEWD and requires a good understanding of GNSS receiver or equivalent communications technology (e.g. Code Division Multiple Access - CDMA), an understanding of GNSS or equivalent communications receiver vulnerabilities to electronic warfare, and an understanding of counter-electronic warfare techniques and procedures in order to advise the Australian Defence Force and influence capability development to assure access to GNSS for Position Navigation & Timing (PNT), while influencing the development of capability to deny the adversary GNSS derived PNT information.
Whilst knowledge will be obtained through on-the-job training and experience, any prior knowledge in these or related areas will be an advantage. This position will report to the Discipline Lead GNSS & Navigation Warfare.
Duties and Key Result Areas:
The major responsibility of the S&T3-4 Satellite Navigation Electronic Warfare Specialist is to undertake complex Navigation Warfare (Navwar) engineering activities and tasks under limited direction. The successful applicant will have significant knowledge of a wide range of techniques and applications and the ability to provide alternative solutions to identified problems. They will be competent within their discipline and will exercise initiative and judgement to evaluate different techniques and applications. The S&T3-4 Satellite Navigation Electronic Warfare Specialist will have some stakeholder engagement and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders' expectations to deliver services and achieve outcomes.
The S&T3-4 Satellite Navigation Electronic Warfare Specialist will be expected to participate in GNSS & Navwar trials approximately 1-2 times per year and have management responsibilities for small trial activities.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a sound knowledge of GNSS receivers and system concepts or relevant communications theory, and experience in one or more of the following areas:
Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to work with a range of modern programming languages and software tools such as C/C++, Python, GNU Radio, Java, Matlab.
Applicants are required to have an ability to prepare technical reports, explain and present complex technical systems, results and findings using Microsoft Office for preparation of reports and presentations.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in a science or engineering discipline relevant to the position.
