The Department of Defence is seeking to fill two Chief of Division Grade 1 positions within the Defence Science and Technology Group.

The Chief Technology Officer – National Security will contribute to the development of whole of Government national security science and technology policy and programs through the provision of expert scientific advice focussed on achieving significant outcomes for Australia’s Defence and National Security.

The Chief Science and Technology Program is responsible for determining the objectives and direction of the Chief Science and Technology Program within a broad framework established by the Department of Defence. The successful candidate will lead the Program Office of the Chief Science and Technology Group. The Program Office includes a number of scientists and analysts working to establish the Chief Science and Technology Group’s client program and supporting the Chief Defence Scientist’s role in capability development projects.

Successful candidates will:

  • Lead and manage performance to achieve outcomes in a multi-disciplines, complex and changing environment.
  • Carry responsibilities and accountabilities for delivering the First Principle Review and ‘One Defence’ system, essential to Defence delivering on its mission in the most effective and efficient way.
  • Be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks.
  • Engage with staff at all levels to explore opportunities, solve complex problems, and reflect on your performance.
  • Be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and delivery of results.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo high level security assessments and must be an Australian Citizen or willing to apply for citizenship.
