The Institute operates from facilities in Townsville Queensland, Darwin Northern Territory and Perth Western Australia.

About this Opportunity

You will be a science graduate with an interest in benthic ecology and have developed a good knowledge of tropical marine flora and fauna.

This is a practical hands-on position, involving extensive time in the field and post trip processing to collect and analyse benthic biodiversity data and demersal fish data. You will have access to modern remote sampling methodologies to conduct all field activities, including towed video, drop cameras, multi-beam sonars and baited remote underwater vehicles.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a world leading organisation with attractive working conditions including a 9-day fortnight, generous leave entitlements, a salary range of $62,277 - $78,074 and 15.4% superannuation. This role is being offered for a 3 year term and will be based in Perth, Western Australia.

About You

You will have the willingness to work at sea for extended periods and combined with tertiary qualifications in marine biology or ecology or similar, be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience using remote sampling equipment;
  • A sound understanding of the biodiversity of coral reefs;
  • Experience identifying benthic invertebrates from video and photographic images; and
  • Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to use and maintain databases.

Scientific or commercial diving qualifications and field qualifications, such as coxswains and boat licences will be highly regarded.
