Lecturer - Bachelor of Nursing 

 

This lecturing position is responsible for the preparation and delivery of units within the Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-Registration) taught by Batchelor Institute, based at Casuarina Campus (CDU).

The appointee will work in partnership with a wider teaching team of colleagues in the CDU School of Health. The successful applicant will, through the development and delivery of relevant courses, units, programs of study, clinical training blocks, including those intended for off-campus and flexible delivery, provide expert advice related to at least one specialist clinical area.

This position requires a high level of professional knowledge and skills, experience in higher education course delivery and a Postgraduate qualification, preferably at a Masters or PhD level. Other responsibilities include contributing to the management and operations of the Division.

Detailed statement of duties

  1. Undertake ongoing development of course and unit curriculum including the development and updating of supporting resource materials.
  2. Coordinate and conduct workshops, lectures, classes, demonstrations and student assessment and support clinical training block activities in accordance with the approved Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-registration) curriculum.
  3. Administrative tasks associated with teaching including maintaining student records, reporting on student progress, counselling students on academic matters, coordinating student travel, enrolment and recruitment and documenting the teaching process.
  4. Maintain the Institute’s administrative procedures and policies as well as relevant academic policies and procedures of CDU, the CDU School of Health and Casuarina Campus.
  5. Attend and participate in relevant meetings of the Institute and of the CDU School of Health and Casuarina Campus as required.
  6. Maintain professional credentialing, undertake professional development and support research and scholarship activities where appropriate
  7. Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation, as directed.

Essential selection criteria

  1. A Postgraduate qualification in nursing and substantial experience relevant to this position.  In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be given to experience in teaching and research and also to professional contributions.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work within the social, political and cultural environment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of historical and contemporary issues of importance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples relevant to the discipline field of this position.
  4. Proven ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including adult students and community members.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to undertake course and unit coordination including developing curriculum and supporting resources relevant to higher education courses.
  6. Experience in online teaching and a high degree of competence in the use of personal computers and electronic communications technology.
  7. Demonstrated capacity to respond effectively to the learning needs of adult Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in higher education courses.
  8. An emerging research profile of publications/research projects and a demonstrated capacity to contribute to research and scholarship in the field of Indigenous health/nurse education/nursing practice.
  9. Proven ability to work effectively with others in culturally diverse teams, as well as being able to operate independently of direct supervision.
  10. Demonstrated capacity to undertake a range of administrative and supervisory tasks with high level skills and knowledge in electronic technologies.

Desirable selection criteria

  1. A Master’s degree or possibly a PhD degree
  2. A relevant tertiary qualification in teaching
  3. Demonstrated ability to speak an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander language
