The Centre of Excellence for the Clinical management of Emerging Drugs of Concern (CECMEDC) is a new national entity that supports clinical treatment interventions across the alcohol and other drug (AOD) spectrum from prevention to dependence at all levels of severity and for all population groups. 

The Centre will integrate its work with other relevant professional and academic bodies, relevant governments and communities, and establish an international reputation in AOD treatment research. The work of the Centre will be consistent with significant international treatment guidelines, guidance products and the work of leading AOD clinical research and treatment centres. The Activity will be delivered through consortia arrangements. The national Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) will act as the Lead agency on behalf of the consortium partners. The consortium partners are as follows:

  • St. Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA)
  • National Drug Research Institute (NDRI), Curtin University of Technology
  • National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA), Flinders University
About the role
  • An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered (17% superannuation and leave loading)
  • Fixed Term for 3 years.
  • 0.6 FTE to Full-time required dependent on other commitments

The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Centre of Excellence for the Clinical Management of Emerging Drugs of Concern (CECMEDC). It is envisaged that the appointee may combine the Director’s role with an appropriate clinical role up to a maximum of 0.4FTE. CECMEDC is a new national entity that supports clinical treatment interventions across the alcohol and other drug (AOD) spectrum from prevention to dependence at all levels of severity and for all population groups. The successful candidate will need to have the vision, energy and experience to achieve the Centre objectives.

This appointment is a joint position between the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) and St Vincent's Health Australia (SVHA).

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A PhD or equivalent in some aspect of drug and alcohol research including clinical research
  • Demonstrated high level expertise in drug and alcohol issues, strategies and policies.
  • An internationally respected record of research and publication in the field of drug and alcohol studies.
  • Track record of effective management and leadership at a high level.
