Research Director, Evaluation and Qualitative Research

The Social Research Centre is dedicated to conducting world-class research to inform decision-making and advance our understanding of Australian Society and our place in the world. We are looking to appoint a full-time Research Director to the Evaluation and Qualitative Research team. The successful candidate will have a senior role and responsibility for leading the development and implementation of quality social research/evaluation projects for its client base and other key stakeholders. This role has qualitative research responsibilities as well as evaluation, analysis/reporting responsibilities.

This position offers the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement (working from home some days with remaining days in the office).

Key Selection Criteria:

• Post-graduate tertiary degree in a relevant discipline and 8 years’ experience gained in a social research / policy environment
• Expert level qualitative research skills
• Well-developed evaluation skills
• Ability and willingness to work in a very ‘hands on’ project role – sometimes with limited availability of support staff
• Previous commercial consulting experience is desirable
• Ability to run a project team and coordinate the workflows of other team members
• Willingness to mentor and train other staff
• Superior ability to use relevant software (NVivo, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other packages relevant to projects, as necessary
• Ability to write / contribute to publication standard reports and presentations
• Ability to respond to project briefs / write high-quality proposals
• Committed work ethic in terms of documenting decisions, transparency, leaving an audit trail, using professional email protocols and maintaining system files
• Demonstrated expertise in business development and client management
• Superior leadership and project management skills
• An excellent understanding of the tender process for government and social research including demonstrated experience in proposal preparation/submission and/or writing
