About the role

The Sustainable Fisheries Project Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the production, processing and procurement of seafood is legal, responsible and fully traceable.  The role provides technical and policy expertise relating to fisheries science and fisheries management and works with: corporate buyers to influence responsible procurement; producers to encourage responsible production practices; and government to motivate the enactment of sustainable laws and policies.  Additionally, the role project manages Fisheries and Aquaculture Improvement Projects and Conservation Projects that protect our marine species and environment.

Skills, knowledge and experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of and experience fisheries science and fisheries management. 
• Experience in advocating for and achieving responsible fisheries production and marine conservation.
• Experience in research, analysis, development and reform of fisheries and aquaculture policy and legislation.
• Conflict resolution, negotiation and influencing skills with a track record of developing influential networks with a range of stakeholders.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation and public speaking communication skills with an ability to communicate complicated concepts in plain English to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work constructively with and contribute to a high-performance team.
• A knowledge of voluntary market-based approaches to environmental management (e.g. standards & certification) and experience working with business on environmental issues, is desirable.
