We work with governments, businesses and communities on environmental issues with a single mission: to build a world where people and nature thrive.   This new role will work in collaboration with WWF’s team of conservation scientists to lead WWF-Australia’s effort in identifying the most effective conservation strategies using “impact evaluation” methodologies that draw upon best practice.

About the role

The role will lead on the development, implementation and refinement of an impact measuring and evaluation approach and on the establishment of a framework to: better inform strategic planning and adaptive management; grow technical capability-building; improve the quality of conservation proposal development; and, capture success stories on the difference WWF's environmental conservation work is making to engage with our supporters.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Experience designing and implementing sophisticated measuring, monitoring and evaluation approaches (e.g. quasi-experimental impact evaluation) to derive evidence of outcomes and the impact of conservation interventions.
  • Project management experience, including forming and leading teams, and collaborating across programs or institutions.
  • Significant experience in complex impact monitoring, and project/program evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of standard/new approaches to impact assessment, monitoring and evaluation, including an understanding of capabilities and limitations of alternative approaches.
  • Strong technical research and data analysis skills.
  • Experience in experimental design for monitoring and evaluation, the development and refinement of protocols, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analytical techniques, and data interpretation.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate research findings and technical concepts to both scientific and lay audiences.
  • A track record of developing and securing fundraising proposals.

Ideally, you will have practical experience with field-based conservation activities and advocacy based strategies together with a working knowledge of 'The Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation' and a network of relevant scientists and practitioners.  A Master’s degree preferably with a Ph.D. in a relevant social, natural science or a quantitative discipline is highly desirable.
