Clinical Study Coordinator

About us

From the legacy of legendary heart transplant surgeon Victor Chang, the Institute’s team has rapidly pioneered research with a shared and life changing vision – to reduce the incidence, severity and impact of heart disease, still the leading cause of death and disability in our society.

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work one day per week as part of a research team investigating the genetic causes of inherited cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias, led by Prof Diane Fatkin.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Patient recruitment and family liaison
  • Collection of clinical and family history information, and database management
  • Assist in the clinical evaluation and counselling of, as well as the provision of genetic results to, patients and their families
  • Liaison with laboratory scientists and coordination of biological sample collection

The role is part-time, one day per week with flexible hours.

About you

The successful applicant will be highly motivated and capable of independent work as well as performing well in a team. Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are required.

Experience as a clinical study coordinator and/or genetics counseling and a familiarity with laboratory research would be an advantage.

We would like to meet you if you have:

  • The ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and families
  • Experience in clinical study coordination
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and familiarity with web searching, and literature and database searches
  • Skills in using/accessing genetic databases and other databases for management of data collection
  • An undergraduate degree or post graduate qualification in science, nursing or genetic counselling or a Part I certification in Genetics Counselling from Human Genetics Society of Australasia will be highly regarded
