The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease through world class medical research. The role

Professor Robert M. Graham, Executive Director of the VCCRI and Head, Molecular Cardiology and Biophysics Division, is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with expertise in cell and molecular biology, and animal models of heart disease.

In this role you will join an enthusiastic team investigating cardiac regeneration after injury.

You will be involved in day-to-day studies that require animal microsurgical skills, heart perfusion by Langendorff to isolate cardiac cells as well as imaging by confocal microscopy after immunostaining of tissue and cell samples. You will also assist in the preparation of DNA from cells for genome studies.

You will be working within a larger group evaluating aspects of cardiac and vascular biology at the cellular and molecular level.

About you

Are you an accomplished scientist with a talent for hands-on experimental work and data analysis? We would like to meet you if you have:

  • A BSc ± Hons, a MSc or equivalent;
  • prior in-depth experience in cardiac perfusions and associated techniques, particularly microsurgical skills;
  • experience in imaging by confocal microscopy following immunostaining of tissues and/or cells.
