About us

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease through world class medical research. Established in 1994, it is the legacy of legendary heart transplant surgeon Victor Chang. Renowned for the quality of its breakthroughs, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is working to discover better ways to diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent the onset of heart disease.

The Institute maintains facilities for genetically modified rodents, where a high quality of animal care is coupled with excellent support services for research.

The role

As Transgenic Technologist you will work as part of a skilled and dedicated team who provide support for research into cardiovascular disease.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate a cryopreservation programme to archive and distribute genetically modified mouse lines
  • Contribute to the health integrity programme of the facility through rederivation of mouse lines
  • Develop new services and technologies as required by research needs

About you

We would like to meet you if you have:

  • Qualifications in applied science or related field
  • Skills in early mouse embryo handling and cryopreservation
  • Experience in mouse in-vitro fertilization and sperm cryopreservation
  • Proven expertise in surgical techniques in laboratory mice, such as embryo transfers and vasectomy
  • Experience in rodent animal husbandry and colony management in a research setting
