  • Fully funded postdoctoral research fellowship
  • Work with one of Australia’s most respected national and independent medical research institutes
  • Located in Westmead, one of Sydney’s and Australia’s major biomedical research hubs

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia’s first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now one of the nation’s most highly regarded independent medical research institutes. Our research focuses on the areas of cancer, embryonic development, neuroscience and gene therapy. CMRI’s research programs are supported by state of the art instrumentation and facility support in microscopy, proteomics and genome editing. Our achievements are made possible by a loyal network of community supporters, highly engaged donors and the very successful Jeans for Genes® fundraising campaign.

We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic PhD graduate to join the laboratory of Professor Tracy Bryan. The overall research interest of the lab is the ribonucleoprotein telomerase and its role in cancer cell immortality or bone marrow failure. In particular, we are interested in expanding our recent exciting findings of links between the DNA damage response, DNA replication stress, and telomerase recruitment to chromosome ends, in cancer cells and haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Applicants with a background in the DNA damage or DNA replication fields and/or HSC biology are therefore encouraged to apply.

Candidates should have a PhD in cell and molecular biology, and a deep interest in telomere maintenance and/or genome stability. The successful candidate will have first author publication(s) in high profile international scientific journals, and experience at presenting their research at local or international conferences. They will have very strong spoken and written English capability, excellent presentation skills, team spirit, independence, creativity and self-motivation.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship is offered for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal. You will be provided with a competitive remuneration package in accordance with qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include the provision of a Public Benevolent Institution salary packaging scheme and participation in an employer-contributed superannuation fund.

Interested candidates should send their application to recruitment@cmri.org.au, including a cover letter (citing PV2018) detailing your career goals and scientific interests, curriculum vitae and contact details (phone/email) of three professional referees. Further enquiries can be directed to Professor Tracy Bryan (tbryan@cmri.org.au).

Due to current border restrictions, applicants are required to be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents, or have unrestricted working rights and be currently resident in Australia. However, international applicants with outstanding track records are welcome to contact Professor Bryan to discuss future fellowship possibilities.

Closing date for applications is 31 July 2020.
