Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia’s first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now one of the nation’s most highly regarded independent medical research centres. Our research focuses on the areas of embryonic development and birth defects, cancer, neuroscience and gene therapy and we have a strong international reputation based on our research outcomes. CMRI’s research programs are supported by state of the art facilities and committed research and support staff. ProCan
ProCan, the ACRF International Centre for the Proteome of Human Cancer, was established at CMRI in 2016. It is a major new program that applies innovative technology to analyse the protein content of small tissue samples. The goal of ProCan is to complete a comprehensive proteomic analysis of all cancer types to improve diagnosis, and to enable more precise recommendations for the effective treatment of cancer patients. ProCan plans to analyse around 70,000 adult and children’s cancers over the next 5-7 years with a view to rapid translation of research findings into clinical practice.

Reporting to the CMRI Director, and liaising with the ProCan team leaders in proteomics, anatomical pathology, software engineering, data science and oncology, this new position will be responsible for driving the operational strategy and activities of the ProCan program.

To be successful you will have the following:

• PhD degree (or equivalent qualification) and at least five years successful operational management experience in a research laboratory and/or clinical pathology laboratory at a senior level, or a BSc (or equivalent qualification) and at least 10 years similar experience.
• Familiarity with accreditation standards and other regulations relevant to high-throughput biomedical laboratory testing
• Proven management expertise
• Financial management reporting and analysis skills
• Record of achievement in managing complex projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Experience in business development
• Excellent communication skills and ability to participate in negotiations with potential partners
